ABOUT CONFERENCEAccording to experts, food and agribusiness have a huge investment potential. Over the past decade there has been a rapid increase in investment in agriculture and the food industry. According to the research conducted by Valoral Advisors, in the period from 2004 to 2017, the number of professional investment funds focusing on agriculture and the food industry increased 12 times, from 38 to 446, managing over USD 73 billion in assets. This is not surprising. Indeed, according to Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) forecasts, it is expected that by 2050 the world population will grow to almost 10 billion, which will significantly increase the demand for food. “Tonight there will be 219,000 people at the dinner table who were not there last night,” said Lester Brown, founder and president of Earth Policy Institute in his book “A Full Planet, Empty Plates,” is a new challenge that we all have to deal with. It is worth noting that most of the consumption will come from developing countries in the forthcoming years. According to the World Data Lab and OECD Development Matters, by 2030 the number of middle-class representatives in China will increase by 370 million, and in India by 600 million compared to 2019. As people's prosperity grows, their eating habits will change: There will be a shift in the diet towards high value-added food with high protein and healthy food (meat, fish and healthy nutrition).
Looking into the future, it can be said with confidence that meeting the growing demand for food will require significant investments in agriculture itself as well as solving number of issues related to the productivity growth and increasing efficiency of agro-industrial assets in order to produce more with less resources.
